Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
For the purposes of transparency, scientific quality and the explicit acknowledgement of all AI tools used in the research process and reporting of results in published articles, Misostenido adheres to the principles Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) of the Artificial Intelligence Disclosure (AID) Framework, which offers a structured statement of how AI has been used in the process of producing the work.
The following sections are recommended by the AID Framework, which can be included at the end of academic papers:
- Tool used: specify the name of the AI tool used (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, DeepL, Grammarly).
- Purpose of use: briefly describe what you used the AI tool for (e.g. developing ideas, creating outlines, drafting, checking grammar or translating).
- Prompts or instructions provided: this includes the specific commands or questions you entered into the AI tool.
- Use of generated content: explain how the AI-generated content was used in the final work (for example, whether you used it directly, modified it, or used it as a reference).
- Review and editing: indicate whether you reviewed or edited the AI-generated content before including it in the work.
- Limitations and ethical considerations: mention any limitations identified in the use of the AI tool and any ethical considerations taken into account.
This AI Policy applies to everyone involved in the publication of research articles, case studies, reviews, academic contributions and book reviews. This includes authors, reviewers and editors of the journal.
1. Author Obligations
Any author who uses AI tools to produce their article must include an ‘AI Use Statement’ at the end of the manuscript, in the article section specified in the Guidelines for Authors – ‘Article Structure’.
We recommend using the open-access tool AI Usage Declarator, which helps authors generate a comprehensive .txt statement and a unique verification code regarding the use of AI in their articles. This document can be published on OJS alongside the article, and the code can be included in the section specified above at the end of the manuscript.
The unsupervised use of generative AI, the automatic generation of full-length articles, and the fabrication of data or references are prohibited.
All AI-generated content must be reviewed to ensure its accuracy, relevance and suitability, as the ethical, legal and scientific responsibility for the work rests entirely with the authors.
All AI tools used must be cited correctly in accordance with APA style (7th ed.).
2. Reviewer Obligations
Reviewers must inform the journal immediately if they detect any undeclared use of AI or signs of AI-generated text. They must also examine the use of AI as reported in the studies and assess whether it is clear, appropriate and in line with good scientific practice.
The use of AI in manuscript review must be supervised and editors must be informed of this. Critical judgement and intellectual authorship must be maintained at all times in the report.
3. Editor Obligations
If Misostenido’s editors find that the authors have breached the AI Policy, they may take appropriate action, such as rejecting the manuscript, requesting the retraction of articles already published, restricting or preventing future publication in the journal and, in particularly serious cases, informing the relevant affiliated institutions.
If the reviewers are in breach of the policy, the journal may request that the manuscript be reviewed again and may suspend their role as reviewers either temporarily or permanently, depending on the seriousness of the situation.
Misostenido’s editorial team will periodically review and update its editorial policies on the use of AI and its impact on scientific publishing, in line with any developments in this area.
