Journal Information

Aims and scope

The research journal in music therapy, Misostenido, is an international journal that is positioned as a reference in the Spanish-speaking context, with the objective of strengthening the professional momentum of music therapists in Spain and Latin America. It is a free, double anonymous peer reviewded publication with a strong commitment to expanding knowledge, disseminating information, and contributing to discourse on music therapy in health, social care, and education contexts through research protocols. The journal Misostenido in Music Therapy is committed to developing a culture of research among Spanish-speaking professionals in the field of music therapy. It aims to serve as a conduit for disseminating their research findings to the broader public. The journal is guided by the three major publications in the sector: the Journal of Music Therapy, the Nordic Journal of Music Therapy, and Music therapy Perspectives. In order for music therapy to gain traction in Spanish-speaking countries, it is essential to provide an institutional boost, which will require research to be a fundamental element of this process.

The music therapy research journal Misostenido covers a wide range of topics based on the foundations of neuroscience, medicine, healthcare, psychotherapy, psychology, musicology, pedagogy, and social care. These are the sources from which the journal draws its content. The journal provides a forum for discourse and analysis through the publication of empirical and theoretical research, case studies, systematic reviews, analyses of clinical practice, philosophical essays on music therapy, and reviews of specialized books on music therapy. This facilitates the advancement of this therapeutic discipline and elucidates the impact of music, understood as therapy, on individuals. The well-being of patients depends on how music therapists apply the principles of clinical practice and scientific evaluation to provide a system of professional care and attention.

The music therapy research journal Misostenido is an academic publication associated with the International University of La Rioja (Spain). The project was launched in 2021 as a Teaching Innovation Project (Proyecto de innovación docente - PIDA) within the framework of the Master's Degree in Music Therapy at the University. Its initial objective is to promote the research abilities of its students based on scientific evidence. The project has the support of various degree subjects, including "Innovation and Research in Music Therapy," "Supervision in Music Therapy," "Ethics," and "Design, Evaluation, and Implementation of Projects." In its journey, it has obtained the support of other projects promoted from the Master in Music Therapy itself, including the investIgA Project (research resources with Artificial Intelligence, recent PIDA 2024), the MUTtalks, work entrepreneurship conference for music therapists, the TQiDO Project (Harvard MBA to design music therapy projects), the iMUT Music Therapy Research Group, and the professional association of music therapy HDOSOL, música y terapia (linked to FEAMT and EMTC). The objective is to provide a comprehensive and reflective overview of therapeutic practices, the design of personalized projects, clinical evaluation, research protocols, emerging theories, and all professional issues.

The journal's primary objective is to provide a scientific foundation for music therapy in the Spanish-speaking context, update its theoretical and philosophical scope, gather evidence from clinical practice, encourage debate on its impact on society, and improve clinical practice in the field of health, education, and social and health care.

The Music Therapy Research Journal Misostenido is led by an experienced editorial team of music therapy professionals with over 20 years of expertise in the clinical and pedagogical fields. The advisory board is comprised of international members affiliated with various academic institutions, including those in Europe and Latin America. It provides a forum for professionals in the fields of music therapy and related disciplines to engage in discourse and reflection on the research and study of this discipline.

The quality standards of the journal are focused on the review and evaluation of all research articles and book reviews. Initially, the editor assesses the articles and, if they meet the quality requirements, they are evaluated by double-blind peer review by independent experts and a final review by the editorial team. Furthermore, particular attention is paid to graphic design, as a vital means of communication and information, with the aim of encouraging readers to engage with the magazine's content. Please submit your contributions via the online portal, accessible via the "Call for Papers" tab on our website. We ensure that the review process is a positive experience for authors.

The Music Therapy Research Journal Misostenido is a valuable resource for a diverse range of professionals and users. It offers insights and knowledge that can benefit music therapists, students of music therapy and creative therapeutic arts, as well as those studying psychology, psychiatry and psychotherapy, nursing and medicine, social work, occupational therapy and social education, music pedagogy, and music studies. It also provides valuable information for users of music therapy services and their caregivers.
